Brewtown Gin Tour at Grays Court Hotel 2

Located in the heart of Yorkshire, Cooper King Distillery is a family-owned micro-distillery built on the site of a stable, producing outstanding spirits underpinned by craftsmanship, honesty and adventure.

Cooper King Distillery & Brewtown Tours Bottle 4Founded in 2016 by Dr Abbie Neilson, a former scientist and Chris Jaume, a chartered architect, the venture was inspired by their desire to leave the rat-race. Chris and Abbie travelled across the globe and became fascinated by the eight operational whisky distilleries in Tasmania. With a mission to bring their discoveries back to England, the couple gave up their established careers and set up a truly independent gin and whisky distillery back home in Yorkshire.

Cooper King Distillery is England’s only self-built whisky and gin distillery, and one of only a handful in the country to run on 100% green energy.

The recently launched Cooper King Dry Gin is hand-distilled with honey from their own beehives and a touch of locally grown lavender, making for an excellent sipping gin. For every bottle of Cooper King Dry Gin sold, 1 square metre of woodland is planted through their Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust partnership, making it the first gin in Europe with 1% for the Planet® accreditation.

At Rarebird the owner, Matt Stewart, was approaching the end of a rewarding 30-year career as a front-line firefighter, and was looking for a new and stimulating challenge. Equipping himself with the necessary skills, he built a bespoke distillery from where Rare Bird gins are developed.img0164Low_Res

It’s fair to say, Matt and his wife Elizabeth shared a passion for experimenting with flavours, and spent several years refining what has become the signature London Dry Gin. This was followed 7 months later with the stunning and highly popular Rhubarb & Ginger flavour.

Centre stage at the Distillery is ‘Florence’, a 300 litre copper still from which every bottle of Rare Bird Gin is produced. Everything is done on site in Malton, from flavour formulation, distillation, bottling, labelling and retail sales.

Making full use of the stunning building which now houses the Distillery, and keen to share his passion for distilling with others, Matt set up NORTH YORKSHIRES 1ST GIN SCHOOL. Following a guided tour of the Distillery, during which Matt will show how gin is made, guests have the opportunity to work on a 1.5 litre still and create a unique flavoured gin of their very own. This is bottled, labelled and sealed, ready to take home at the end of the session.

The Hooting Owl Distillery is an artisan distiller of craft Gin based in the historic Barmby Moor House on the main A1079 Trunk Road to Hull at Barmby Moor. The House has a long history from being a coaching inn, a public house, a country hotel to now being a family home and home to The Hooting Owl Distillery.

Originally called the Bunch of Grapes, and later the Wilmer Arms, this elegant Georgian house was a famous coaching inn during the 18th and 19th centuries. It was a regular stopping place for the eleven coaches which passed daily through the village along with the miscellany of chaises, waggons and packhorses which also came this way. It is reputed that Queen Victoria herself once stayed a night at the hostelry – one particular bedroom is still referred to as the ‘Queen’s room’.

We produce a London Dry Gin so macerate and then distil. The method that we employ involves the maceration of our botanicals in a 96% ABV Neutral spirit from Grain. The botanicals are carefully chosen in order to give us a consistent flavour, though seasonality may bring slight differences, our distiller is able to counterbalance these differences in order to produce a consistent product.

The Hooting Owl Distillery is offering a service where it will develop a bespoke Gin for clients. The Gin Will be Unique and only available for the client, though the recipe and method of production will remain the property of The Hooting Owl Distillery. There is also a gin school where the client can come to Hooting Owl Distillery and overnight in the onsite self-contained holiday cottage, (Two Bedrooms, Two Bathrooms).
