Breweries we visit
Opened in 2015, Quirky Ales can be found in Garforth. It can be considered one of the true microbreweries in Yorkshire as it is a 2.5BBL system brewing 720 pints at a time. Based in an industrial unit, it has a bottle shop and a charming little taproom which holds music nights on a weekend. When you are here don’t forget to ask Mike about his beer school.
From modest beginnings in 2013, Northern Monk has gone from strength to strength. Beginning life as a ‘nomadic’ producer, using other breweries’ facilities to create its recipes, the brewery now turns out 20,000 pints a week from their base at a Grade II-listed mill in the south of the city. Northern Monk’s beers are a celebration of diversity, bringing together styles and ingredients from all over the world to create traditional Yorkshire beers with a thoroughly modern edge. From their 9% imperial stout to their selection of lighter pale ales, there’s a Northern Monk beer for everyone.
North was established in 2015 as an offshoot of seminal Leeds craft beer house North Bar. With a core range of five beers, as well as a never-ending roster of one-offs and collaborative brews, North’s beers are characterized by their innovation and uniqueness, featuring huge hop flavors as well as some fun, playful and downright surprising ingredients.
