May round-up of York and Leeds breweries news...Want to know what our Yorkshire brewers are up to this month?

Finally we get to enjoy a bit of sunshine. Some have been enjoying it more than others, notably judges at the Free From Food Awards who enjoyed cans of our Sunshine sufficiently enough to give it silver in their 2018 awards. We've always been proud to say we make award winning beer, and it's great that we can say we make gluten free beer, but to now be able to say that we make award winning gluten free beer feels really good!

We’ve now launched our 7.4% New England style IPA Disruptor in cans. The 440ml size is new territory for us, and works great with the style, whilst we also believe this is the UK’s first gluten free NEIPA. Reception so far has been fantastic. Fans of big juicy hop monsters need to get their paws on this one.
Our April seasonal cask offering Death By Toffee, a 4.8% sticky toffee pudding inspired brown ale, was all snapped up by publicans in a 24 hour window in March, and proved to be such a hit that we felt obliged to brew some more. Batch two hung around in the brewery a little longer, perhaps 36 hours.

Following the sweet-tooth theme, we’ve resurrecting one of our big hits from 2017, Rhubarb & Custard Light Mild, to coincide with CAMRA’s “Mild In May” drive to help promote one of our nations indigenous but often unfashionable beer styles. Our version is not only a tribute to once-common light mild, but also infuses the flavor of rhubarb & custard sweets, to give nostalgic fun-in-a-glass. Given how well this did for us last year, we’ve lined up a couple of brews of this.

The March 31st saw our first Crowler Club party. We invited members who helped crowdfund the purchase of our Brewery Tap’s crowler, or who have joined our club subsequently, to come to the brewery for a shindig. Drinks were on us, complimented with street food provided by Tacoporium, live music from Birds & Beasts, films throughout the day, and beer themed seminars. A cracking day was had by all. During the event we also canvassed members for their ideas of what they would like us to brew, so one of our scheduled June seasonal offerings is going to be a raspberry & ginger farmhouse style, inspiration courtesy of Malcolm Hodgson.

One of our annual highlights is the charity beer festival we run in collaboration with Bad Seed Brewery, Beertown. Running 17th – 19th May, we’ll be showcasing one of the finest beer line ups Yorkshire has ever seen, with proceeds being donated to local charity Ryedale Special Families. Tickets are still available at

The Market Tap opens in Pocklington on 25th May following a complete refurbishment of the old Maynews shop. The building hadn’t been properly maintained for over 25 years and the years have taken their toll. A cellar full of old newspapers propped up a decaying building shrouded in delightful 80’s shop fittings. With a new roof, a new staircase and a new steel supporting structure the Georgian building is ready to start its new life as The Market Tap. We are pouring 9 cask and 9 keg beers, a good selection of bottled beers and ciders, decent wine and gin. We have pies, cheese, charcuterie, and other goodies on the menu. We’re working with some great local (and some not so local) producers. Beer cured bacon sarnie? Local pork sausages made with our XS ESB? Do come and visit us and see what you think. We’re open all week - early till late. 11 Market Place, Pocklington York YO42 2AS.

The Tap Room at the Brewery is extremely popular – Open Friday 3.30 – 7.30 with 3 – 5 real ale and keg beers on. There is usually some pie if you are quick enough! 3, Handley Park, Elvington York YO41 4AR

Spring Seasonal; Ascalon 4.5% Golden Ale
Summer Seasonals; Solstice 3.8% India Pale Lager, Mosaic 4.3% Oatmeal Pale Ale
Awards – Gold in the SIBA Regional Keg awards for Avenoir

Although we are not officially open to the public, please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 07866551018 if you would like a look round. We now produce a total of twelve different ciders including our core range of Dry, Medium, Sweet, Pear, Special Reserve and Spiced and our fruit ciders including Rhubarb, Sloe, Elderflower, Damson and Rose. These will hopefully be joined by our new Lavender and Rosehip ciders during the course of the year.
